Monsoon Essentials for your Dogs and Cats

Monsoons can be enjoyable or detestable, depending on how prepared you are for them. Without the right tools, the rainy season can be really uncomfortable and dreadful. The high humidity, the countless puddles and slippery grounds. For us, it’s easy to catch a cold, to get wet and to get our feet dirty.

For dogs and cats, it’s almost the same, but it can be worse. They can get drenched in water easily and because of their thick fur coats, it doesn’t dry up easily. If we own a dog or a cat, we know that frequent baths are not good for them as they can strip them of the natural oils on their skin’s surface. There are also higher chances of allergies and infections during the monsoons. To make sure your precious pets enjoy the monsoons, here are some essential things you need:

Vaccines

This is the first step you should take. During the cold and wet seasons, your pets are more susceptible to a number of dangerous conditions like maggots, bugs, leptospira, hepatitis, fleas etc. In this season, the best thing you can do for your dog and cat is making sure they have all the necessary vaccinations. Visit the vet, and you can also consult them on extra products like powders, lotions and other dog and cat products.

Shampoos and Conditioner

Going out and dancing in the rain with your little buddy can be really tempting. And we don’t deny that. It’s an experience in itself. You can do this without any worry if you take the right measures. Use an appropriate pet dog shampoo so that all the dirt and grime is washed away. Especially in cities with high pollution, it’s a lot easier to get dirty. So use warm water while giving your dog and cat a bath. Warm water can become a breeding ground for bacteria, hence using the shampoo helps get rid of all the germs completely.

Pamper the Paws

Your pup’s paws are the first thing that touches the ground. And with all the extra dirt during the monsoons cleaning them will require attention all the more. You should buy a specific dog paw cleaner to provide that extra nourishment and protection. This product should be applied to the paw pads and the elbows, in any areas where cracks and damages can occur. Simply massage the product into the paw very gently just before they go to bed. They will wake up with soft and smooth paws.

Watch What They  Eat

Just like we pay attention to what we eat during the rainy season, dogs and cats require the same amount of attention. Your vet will suggest what foods they should eat, and you should always examine the food before giving it to your dog. Worms can get into the food very easily, and if they are ingested, they can be really fatal for the dog.  It could even lead to conditions like debility anorexia or anaemia. Make sure you also keep refreshing your cat or dog’s water bowl. Stagnant water tends to be a breeding ground for infections so it helps to boil the water and cool it down before giving it to them to get rid of any contamination. Secondly, make sure they have a diet that is rich in fibre so that it builds their immunity and strength,

Having a pet can often feel like you have your own baby to take care of. This small little creature that looks at you like you are its world. Spending that quality time with your pup or cat leaves the stress of the world behind. All you want to do is give that little puppy all the love and care in the world. Part of that love is making sure that they get the best treatment and care possible. Make sure that you have all these monsoon essentials so that you can your pet can enjoy the rainy season to the fullest.
